The first point of visit will be the archaeological complex of Pisac (in Quechua P’isaq) located 30 kilometers from the city of Cuzco. The district of Pisac in the province of Calca, is one of the most important and visited of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, thanks to its archaeological complex are very important buildings for agriculture in Inca times called “tambos”.

The tourist viewpoint of Taray, which is located a few minutes before reaching Pisac, gives us a spectacular view of the Vilcanota Valley (sacred river), is perhaps the point from which you can see a large part of the sacred valley.

In the Inca constructions of Pisac are very important points that are visited in the tour as:

  • The tambos (seed deposits)
  • The Amaru punku(door of the snakes)
  • The Intihuatana
  • The Inca cemetery
  • The famous andenerías

After touring the archaeological complex of Pisac, we will have free time to visit the handicraft market, located in the heart of the Pisac district (main square), as well as the chinchero, which offers a variety of souvenirs, handicrafts and textiles made by the inhabitants themselves.

After getting to know this colorful handicraft fair, it is time to prepare the next trip to the province of Urubamba.

Urubamba is the point where we will enjoy a buffet lunch, with a variety of typical dishes with natural products in a tourist and very comfortable restaurant.

During this short break, you can take a break and hydrate your body before making the next trip to Ollantaytambo which is a few minutes from Urubamba.

Ollantaytambo Archaeological Centre

Ollantaytambo (in Quechua: Ullantay Tanpu) is a town and archaeological site capital of the District of Ollantaytambo, is located northwest of the city of Cusco and 40 minutes drive from Urubamba.

Ollantaytambo is said to have been built for military purposes, a part of its construction includes specially designed terraces in the entire escarpment of the low mountain. What is most surprising in Ollantaytambo is the design of immense monoliths of great tons in weight joined with great precision and located in the upper part (crown) of the mountain.

During the incanato, Pachacútec conquered the region and built Ollantaytambo for surveillance purposes and urban constructions were designed under the foothills of the mountain. Ollantaytambo is the only Inca city in Peru that is still inhabited.

The points of greatest interest in Ollantaytambo are:

  • Temple of the Sun.
  • The platforms.
  • The Royal House of the Sun.
  • The Temple of the Sun.
  • The Monumental Cover.
  • the Precinct of the 10 Hornacinas.
  • Baths of Ñusta.

Chinchero, the last point of the Sacred valley day trip.

On our way back to Cusco, we will visit the picturesque town of Chinchero, located at 3,754 meters above sea level. 28 kilometers from Cuzco, in the province of Urubamba, also known as “the land of the rainbow”.

In chinchero you can see the remains of the royal hacienda of Túpac Inca Yupanqui, and on the foundations of that beautiful hacienda was built the colonial temple with interesting frescoes in the portico.

The days of fair in chinchero are Sundays, that in its origin was dominated by the barter of products between the inhabitants of the zone. Today it is a tourist attraction because of the offer of its Inca handicrafts and distillery made in the pre-Columbian style and fabrics woven with natural fabrics.

In chinchero are important points of visit as:

  • Inca walls (rustic).
  • Colonial Temple.
  • Central square of chinchero.
  • Craft and textile centres.

After crossing the last stretch of the Sacred valley day trip, it is time to start the return trip towards the city of Cusco.

The final point in Cusco is in San Francisco Square at approximately 19:30 pm.
